NRG RECORDING CAPTURES THE FULL MIX FOR P.O.D, WALLS OF JERICHO WITH LAVRY ENGINEERING’S LAVRYBLUE CONVERTERS Elite Mixer Jay Baumgardner Depends on the Extreme A/D Transparency of SEATTLE, WA: One of the top mixers in rock, Jay Baumgardner is at it again in his mix suite at NRG Recording with a fresh slate of high-profile projects. With upcoming releases by P.O.D., and Walls of Jericho produced by Skipknot’s Corey Taylor, under his fingertips, every magical moment of his mixes will pass through the extremely transparent A/D conversion of the LavryBlue from Lavry Engineering (www.lavryengineering.com). “Everything goes through my LavryBlue converters – it’s the most important stage after I’ve compressed, EQ’d and done everything else to my mixes,” says Baumgardner. “I expect my A/D’s to make the music sound exactly like it sounded before it was converted. “The ideal converter gives me nothing more and nothing less than what I was hearing, and stays as true as possible to the source. My LavryBlue does that for me.” The LavryBlue Modular A/D D/A Conversion System provides 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96kHz sampling frequencies. Featuring Lavry’s exclusive αβC αcoustic βit Correction®, CrystalLock™, and wide vari- speed operation, the LavryBlue can be configured in 2 to 8 channels A/D, D/A or a combination of both, and is also available along with MicPre modules in one space-saving unit. The LavryBlue’s A/D cards allow the selection of various word lengths, Analog or Digital soft saturation, and dither with αβC αcoustic βit Correction® noise shaping. Other features include LED metering, reference meter mode, peak detection and front panel gain control. Lavry’s extremely transparent conversion may use internal crystals or externally lock to Word Clock or AES signal. Working in NRG’s Studio C equipped with an SSL9000, Pro Tools HD, and Dynaudio C4 monitors, Baumgardner decision to go with the LavryBlue is consistent with his philosophy of keeping his ears and eyes open for the best possible sounds. “My approach to mixing,” he states, “is that I just try to make it sound good by getting the meaning and essence of the song across to the listener. “My first exposure to Lavry Engineering was at Sterling Sound, where I saw that the mastering engineer Ted Jensen was using Lavry converters,” Baumgardner continues. “He thought they were great, I agreed, and that led to me bringing a LavryBlue into my room. I use that as my master recorder, recording my mixes back into Pro Tools HD through the Lavry A/D conversion. Throughout, my LavryBlue has worked flawlessly.” Since his introduction to Lavry Engineering gear, Baumgardner has become a serious fan of the designs and dedication to sonic accuracy displayed by company founder Dan Lavry. “Whatever Dan does, he does it really well,” Baumgardner says. “He has the best people in the business vouching for him. It definitely means something to be recommended by experts on the level of Ted Jensen.” Whether he’s working on the latest sounds of P.O.D., Walls of Jericho, or any of his multi-platinum hit records, Jay Baumgardner depends on the right gear to stay on top.
